Wiel is currently working as a orthopedic nurse at the MUMC+ and specialises in pediatric orthopedics and arthrosis.

Wiel visits Africa multiple times a year to volunteer at either a hospital or a rehabilitation center. His main activity consists of taking care of patients and training (para)medical / nursing personnel. 

The last few years Wiel became involved in the St John of God Hospital in Duayaw Nkwanta, where he in addition to teaching personnel, he also teaches for the class Trauma and Orthopedic Technicians
